ON-LINE RESOURCES for DIABETES EDUCATION

The National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) has on-line resources for health care professionals. The site includes toolkits, Powerpoint presentations for downloading, and other resources. There are also brochures and booklets on diabetes management for distribution to patients. For example, the booklet, When Your Child Is Diagnosed with Diabetes: Parents’ Questions for the Health Care Team, is an excellent source of information that will help families understand the role of the health care team and learn about a child’s diabetes care needs. Many materials are available in English, Spanish, and some Asian and Pacific Islander languages.

A limited number of materials may be ordered from the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) at no charge, but all materials can be downloaded for free.

DIABETES CAMP

The Foundation for Children and Youth with Diabetes(FCYD) offers both summer and winter camps. Activities include teaching the campers about sick day management, traveling with diabetes, carbohydrate counting and managing diabetes at school. Campers participate in sports and activities, such as hiking, going to the Water Park, water-skiing, swimming, skiing, doing arts and crafts and, of course, dancing. Most of all, the campers have a great experience learning about diabetes and making new friends.
